H.R. 1246 would expand the EHDI program to young children; require the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to assist in the recruitment, retention, education, and training of qualified personnel and health care providers; and establish a postdoctoral fellowship program through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to foster research and development in the area of early hearing detection and intervention. The bill is currently awaiting action in the Senate.

Many staff members enjoyed playing with the children during this fun afternoon sponsored by the Fuquay Varina Baptist Church.

Spring 2007

Capitol City Speech therapists participated in this important event:

On Monday, April 2nd, 2007 40 ASHA members, who were attending the annual ASHA SLP conference on health care, visited their Senators and Representatives and asked them to cosponsor H.R.1774 and S.45. H.R. 1774 and S.45 would allow SLPs in private practice to treat Medicare patients and seek reimbursement from Medicare for those services. Further, Medicare beneficiaries would have greater choice in where to receive SLP services. This is especially important for beneficiaries in rural and minority communities who often need to travel a great distance to obtain SLP services.

UPDATE: The bill has been approved and goes into effect July 1st, 2009!

Summer 2005

CCST provided a Free Speech and Hearing Screening during the Harnett County Health Fair. Children came in with caregivers, participated in a child, friendly speech, language and hearing screening. Results were immediately provided to caregivers. Developmental handouts were also provided to those families with concerns.
