| Does your child demonstrate difficulty initiating conversation, using words or phrases in spontaneous speech, or demonstrate difficulty playing (associative and parallel play) when interacting with his/her peers?
Capitol City Speech Therapy will now be offering
Playtime Developmental Enrichment Groups
These groups will be held at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church and will be run by certified developmental therapists and speech therapists. Each group will contain peer models to model age appropriate language and play skills. Each group will contain up to 6 children in the group with 2-3 children demonstrating age appropriate language and play skills. Throughout each group there will be an alternating parent observing the entire session to learn strategies to carryover in the child’s natural environment.
To help prepare each child for pre-school, each group will consist of circle time, free play (including sensory activities), clean up time, and snack time. At the conclusion of each group, we will talk to each parent about what we worked on and how each child did. The groups will work on improving language and play skills by teaching songs, age expected concepts, and providing models from the therapists and peer models of appropriate play skills.
When: Groups will be held at 9:15-10:30 and 10:45-12 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
There will be a mixed speech/developmental group for 18 month olds to 2 years old, a 2-3 year old group, and another group for 18 months old until 3 years old. There will also be a Spanish developmental group run by a certified bi-lingual developmental therapist.
Why should my child be a part of this group?
Each child would benefit from a group setting where they could interact with his/her peers. A group would encourage your child to use newly acquired communication and play skills learned individually in an interactive manner. Each child would participate in activities that encourage following directions and turn-taking skills with his/her peers. In addition strategies would be taught to parents to facilitate communication between children and adults.
